What can be covered
Covers we manage with partners
OCL does not sell these policies. We describe what an agent partner can place and what the analysis will test against your operation. Premium bands come from the spot estimator: they orient, they do not quote.
All-risk cargo
- Covers
- New goods from origin, Institute Cargo Clauses “A” style, warehouse to warehouse, road, ocean, and air, Mexico and cross-border.
- Does not cover, or drops if…
- Pure delay, inherent vice, insufficient packing, war or strike without an endorsement, and whatever the policy lists as excluded (lithium, cash, vaccines, among others).
- Sublimits
- Electronics, auto parts, jewelry, and tobacco usually sit under a sublimit. The analysis flags them against your real value.
Orientative spot band: 0.40% road, 0.57% ocean, 0.71% air of declared value. Not a quote.
Ordinary transit risks and total theft
- Covers
- Used goods, returns, and transit continuation: fire, rollover, collision, and total theft. With a certificate of no damage, the partner can widen this to all risk.
- Does not cover, or drops if…
- Partial theft, wetting, breakage, and shortages that are not the result of an ordinary transit risk. Value is actual (new less depreciation).
- Sublimits
- Same sublimits as the partner’s open policy. Do not assume used goods enter all risk.
Orientative road spot band: 0.23% of declared value. Not a quote.
Full container and consolidation
- Covers
- FCL and LCL with a per-shipment certificate under the partner’s open policy. Sound seals and locks are a condition of cover.
- Does not cover, or drops if…
- Damage or loss of the container as equipment, unless endorsed. Dwell in a bonded facility often covers fire, lightning, and explosion only.
- Sublimits
- “Any one location” accumulation and the certificate limit. The analysis checks whether several shipments stack in a yard.
Same spot band as the mode: 0.40% road, 0.57% ocean. Not a quote.
Parcel and last mile
- Covers
- Parcel and courier shipments once the partner activates them in writing. Without that activation, a general cargo policy leaves them out.
- Does not cover, or drops if…
- Loss without violence and mysterious disappearance. We do not promise this until the activation is confirmed on your policy.
- Sublimits
- Cap per piece and per waybill, set by the partner. The analysis compares it with your average ticket.
No published band: it depends on activation and volume. The analysis returns the range with the partner.
Motor carrier liability
- Covers
- For motor carriers: liability for the freight they haul, separate from the cargo owner’s policy. The owner still needs their own cover.
- Does not cover, or drops if…
- Legal liability is capped per tonne (UMA). In practice it covers a fraction of commercial value. It does not replace the shipper’s all-risk cover.
- Sublimits
- The legal per-tonne cap is the contrast. Invoice value almost always sits above it.
Basic road liability spot band: 0.17% of value. Orientative, not a quote. The partner builds fleet liability separately.
Project and critical equipment
- Covers
- Oversized pieces, loads over 30 tonnes, or high unit value, with daylight transit, weight and center-of-gravity marks, and continuous watch.
- Does not cover, or drops if…
- Without those conditions, critical-equipment cover drops. Subrogation against the handling contractor is usually mandatory.
- Sublimits
- Negotiated per project. From USD 500,000 declared value the estimator already applies an underwriting factor.
No flat band. The partner quotes the project; OCL builds the daylight-transit and handling file.
The warranty that decides the claim
Active monitoring
On road transit, theft cover is lost without monitored GPS and a log. OCL builds the per-trip compliance file: position, stop, overnight, and protocol. It does not replace the monitoring desk; it makes the desk provable.
- 1
Tractor monitoring, every road shipment
GPS live for the whole haul, a 24/7 desk (yours or a third party’s), a position every 15 minutes, a reaction protocol that calls authorities and 911, and a log with time and coordinates. Without that log, the adjuster will not rule on a theft.
- 2
Electronic custody on the trailer
A portable GPS on the trailer or container, from a permitted company. Typical on Mexican policies: theft-prone goods from USD 80,000 (groceries, wine, steel, aluminum, copper, appliances, electronics, pharma, building materials, fashion) and any shipment from USD 300,000.
- 3
Route rules the file has to prove
Route programmed before departure. No stops in the first 100 km. After that, only fuel, food, or driver needs, in a lit and watched place. Overnight only after 100 km, in a closed site, 8 hours maximum, without uncoupling.
When value or the corridor asks
In-person custody
Escort in a separate vehicle, coordinated with custody companies. Price is quoted per leg. It is not inside the premium, and OCL does not provide it: we document it in the same trip file.
Armed escort
Two armed escorts in a separate vehicle, from a permitted company. Mexican cargo policies typically require it for copper and pharmaceuticals from USD 150,000, and it is worth pricing on high-theft corridors even when the policy does not demand it.
Unarmed accompaniment
Unarmed in-person custody for legs or yards where the risk is dwell, not a highway assault. Quoted per leg with custody-company partners. OCL does not provide the escort: it coordinates it and files the evidence.
When the policy asks, and when the corridor does
The policy sets the floor. The corridor can ask for more: theft clusters on legs and hours that the carrier-indicators briefing keeps current. The analysis separates “required or cover is lost” from “worth it because of the route”.
Value × commodity
Which layer each shipment needs
Typical thresholds on Mexican cargo policies. Yours may ask for more or less. The analysis uses your policy, not this table, as the rule.
| Goods | Value | Insurance | Monitoring | In-person custody |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| General, new | Under USD 80,000 | All risk | Tractor GPS, every 15 min | No |
| Theft-prone | From USD 80,000 | All risk | Tractor GPS + electronic custody | No, unless copper or pharma |
| Copper or pharmaceuticals | From USD 150,000 | All risk | GPS + electronic custody | Armed escort |
| Any goods | From USD 300,000 | All risk | GPS + electronic custody | Quoted by corridor |
| Used, return, or continuation | Any | Ordinary transit + total theft | By value, same as above | By value and commodity |
Process
Three steps
1
You send the facts and, if you already insure, the policy
Mode, shipments per month, and the policy PDF (10 MB max). If you do not insure yet, the analysis starts from your operation.
2
Analysis within 48 hours
Coverage gaps, warranties you do not document today, sublimits, and an orientative cost per shipment. Not an insurer quote.
3
Proposal with the partner, inside the AI worker
The CNSF-licensed agent partner quotes and issues. OCL puts monitoring, custody, and the compliance file on the same trip the AI worker already runs.

Free analysis of your cargo insurance
20% credit note
If you hire OCL’s risk-advice and monitoring service after the analysis, the first invoice carries a 20% credit note. It does not apply to the insurance premium.
FAQ
- Is OCL an insurance agent?
- No. Optima Connect Logistics, S.A. de C.V. advises on cargo risk: diagnosis, warranty file, monitoring, and custody coordination. It does not exchange proposals or issue policies. A CNSF-licensed insurance agent does that.
- Who issues the certificate?
- The agent partner, under a policy from an insurer authorized in Mexico. The insured or beneficiary is the cargo owner. OCL is neither the insurer nor the policyholder.
- What if I already have a policy?
- Upload the PDF. The analysis looks for gaps: sublimits below your value, parcel or full-trailer cover not activated, and GPS or overnight warranties your operation cannot prove. The analysis does not replace your policy.
- What does monitoring cost?
- Active monitoring and the per-trip file are an OCL service, quoted against your volume. They are not premium. If you hire us after the analysis, the first invoice for that service carries a 20% credit note.
- Is in-person custody mandatory?
- Only when the policy makes it a warranty, typically copper and pharma from USD 150,000. On other corridors it is a risk decision. We quote it per leg; it is not included in the premium.
- What deductibles should I expect?
- Mexican cargo policies often show a high deductible on theft, rollover, and reefer, and a lower one on the rest, with a dollar minimum. The analysis uses yours, not a generic table as an offer.
- Do full trailers and parcel come in automatically?
- No. Many policies exclude them unless activated in writing. We do not promise them until the partner confirms them for your case.
- Is it really 48 hours?
- Yes, business hours, from complete data. If the policy is missing and you said you already insure, we ask for it by email and the clock starts when it arrives.
- What happens to my policy and my data?
- They go to contacto@oclcargo.com for the analysis. They are handled under the privacy notice. We do not use them to issue or to quote in your name.
